Jenna Mathews lived a life of pain. With an abusive mother and a father that doesn't have time, isolation swamps her. Pain envelops her daily and her only release...self mutilation. When Jeff Simon reaches out to her, showing her what love truly is, Jenna feels hope for the first time in her life. Hope falls short though when Jeff is tragically ripped from her life, and she turns back to doing the only thing that gives her an escape.

What the future has in store...is beyond what she could have ever fathomed.

Short story of fiction, pain, love and healing.

Broken Captive edition by BK Walker Children eBooks

This book had me captivated from the start. I found myself wanting to just hug Jenna and tell her everything would be ok. I'm so glad that she had a happy ending, she deserved it. This book also opens the door to what's going on in the real world with real people. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Broken Captive edition by BK Walker Children eBooks Reviews

What do you do when it seems like your life is falling apart? How do you deal with your emotions? The main character, Jenna, is in a bad place during this novel. She deals with a mother who abuses her and a father who doesn't appear to care very much about her welfare. Jenna is also a cutter. She harms herself to release emotions. Jenna is a very sympathetic character, it is hard not to feel bad for her throughout most of the book. Her life begins to turn around when she meets Jeff. Jeff becomes a bit of a love interest as well as friend; he stabilizes her. The book takes off from there.

The characters were easy to like, Jenna and Jeff that is. The author makes Jenna's pain and raw emotions so real, the reader will feel as if Jenna could be a friend of his/hers. Jeff complements Jenna perfectly, the reader will be rooting for their relationship. The events were fast-paced and intriguing, particularly when Jenna meets Jeff. The ending was perfect, wouldn't change a thing. This book is recommended to adult readers, maybe young adult as well depending on how they would approach the topic of cutting.
i thought that there should be another book. it was good it showed the struggle of a teen who was beaten by her mom and only had one way to relieve the pain. that was to cut. then she found this guy who loved her unconditionally but he was riped out of her life to soon. all things ended in her mind when he was gone but it soon turned and she grew up still loving the one person that still loved her. sad and trajic.
I chose this book due to the other reviews, and really wanted to like it - the subject matter is interesting but the treatment was terrible. Poorly edited with numerous grammatical errors, it was difficult to read. There is no depth to the characters or situations Jenna's life sucks, but her life, her emotions, and the other characters are so shallowly portrayed it's hard to feel any empathy or compassion. Within the first 4 chapters we have emotional abuse, physical abuse, self-mutilation, attempted molestation, consentual under-age sex, oral sex, and death all so rapidly and superficially depicted that it reads more like a cross between a comic book and a porn story than anything else. I hate to leave a book unfinished, so I made myself stick through the drugs, sex, etc to the unrealistic happy ending. The only real positive I have about this book is the factual information given in the Note From the Author at the end concerning self-mutilation and how to recognize it & get help. I wish I could recommend the book, but I can't. If you want to read something that deals with the subject WELL, and IN-DEPTH, I'd suggest Ilsa Bick's "Drowning Instinct" instead. And I'd suggest that Ms Walker learn to dig a little deeper into her characters and that she look for an editor that can help with her grammar. Her target audience may be at the middle- or high-school level; her writing, however, need not be.
