Pirates! Celia Rees Books
I truly enjoyed this book. I found the historical detail fascinating, the characters complex and rich, and the plot believable and entertaining. The author's voice was very engaging with good sensory detail. I felt sympathy for the main character and delighted in her adventures. I agreed with her decisions, keeping in mind how limited they were in the context of the times. I loved the twists in the story line, which I can't detail here without a spoiler alert. This was definitely a good read for someone who enjoys history and stories of heroic women.Tags : Amazon.com: Pirates! Pirates! Celia Rees Books Reviews
I love this book I read it while I was a teenager and recently decided I want to read it again. It is very well written and the story is very captivating! There are quite a few grammatical errors in the edition but it does not take away from the story. I would recommend this book for teens and up (there are a few disturbing parts).
I really enjoyed Pirates and it was hard to put down. I also loved Nancy and Minerva's relationship!! To find out they are half sisters helped them to understand why they we so alike! My favorite part is the rules or creed that the pirates live by and you have to sign a contract and live by the rules on Broom's ship! No matter if you are a woman or man! Loved it😀
Let me start by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well written and fast paced. With all the other reviews already posted there isn't much left to say.
My only complaint is that the phrase "as if" is so over used. Her editors really let her down on that one. On some pages it seems as if the phrase "as if" were on every other line.Eventually, it started to pull me out of the story when I came across it.
Other than that, I would highly recommend this book to anyone. Celia Rees is a great story teller!
I was never really into the whole pirate thing. It just wasnt my cup of tea. But after I read the synopsis for this book I thought it sounded interesting. The feminist in me really wanted to see what would happen when 2 ladies take to the high seas!
By the time I was done I was hooked. I hadnt seen Pirates Of The Carribean yet and wasnt in any rush to run out and see it but after reading this book I was so amped up on pirates not long after I finished it I ran out and got the POTC movies just because I wanted more pirates in my life! lol
The characters were great, the plot was never boring and the verbage sounded like the author was really trying to make the characters sound genuine. Overall a perfect 10!
The book "Pirates!" was an amazing work of art filled with adventure, heartbreak, hope, pirates and an evil Brazilian man hunting Nancy to try to win her heart with gold and riches. Nancy and her friend Minerva leave in search of a free life and come to be friends with people they never would have dreamed of giving that title to. I highly recommend reading this book and I assure you I will be reading it again. THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ!!!!!
The story of how one girl's realization turns the lives of those around her upside down. Nancy had no idea her father had traded her off to a wealthy spanish Pirate. All in order to restore name and fortune to her squandering brother. It was the 1700's, the slave trade was high, women were chattel, and pirates still roamed the seas. An interesting story with a romantic view of how life might have been for a young woman escaping an undesired marriage and the everyday horrors witnessed on a Jamaican plantation.
I adore this book! Although not as well-developed as other novels, Celia Rees still charms in this story about a young girl jetting off an adventure full of piracy and friendship. Although meant for those in the middle school range, I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I first read it at 18 years old at the library. So much so that I purchased it recently on my to enjoy for years to come. If you crave adventure and love Elizabeth Bennett (strong female leads involved with pirates, that is), then this book is for you.
