This book is very thin. Not a lot of practice for nearly $40. Went through all of it with my son before the test. He told me that the actual test was only about 1/3 similar to the problems in the book. I give it 3 stars not because I especially like it, but because there aren't a lot of other materials available. The publisher knows this, so they get away with an exorbitant price for so little...Product details

AN EXPENSIVE "BOOKLET"!!!
My daughter's school is going to give her the Test CogAT. Therefore, I bought this book in order to prepare her. I should have been more careful and read the description of the book ("BOOKLET").
1- It looks more a "booklet" than a book Dimensions 8.8 x 5.9 x 0.3 inches - Weight 4 ounces (for 39 pages of exercises). It is a very, very SMALL "booklet" for $ 42.95. You pay ~$1 per page (Not counting shipping and handling)
2- I thought that the exercises in the book were different from many other good, cheaper and BIGGER books such as the MENSA books and others. I was wrong!
3- This is the first books that I have bought that has a clear wrapping that says, "if you open it, you cannot return it." I have seen this warning on software and DVDs, but not on books. That is the first sign that you are walking into a trap.
4- I wonder if the publisher of the Test CogAT is testing to see how dumb the parents are by paying over $40 for this "booklet". I did not pass their test (I opened the seal of the "booklet"), but now you have the first review for this "booklet" in order to avoid failing their test (it is an expensive "booklet")
5- Also I wonder how much the school system pays this publisher to administer the test to all its schools.
6- If you look in your book store, probably you can get VERY similar material from other low cost publishers (check the MENSA books and any other publishers that works on this subject) Well, you have been warned . It is up to you to spend over $40 for a "booklet"

Toooo expensive book on market for little material
This booklet is a great help in preparing for the CogAT test. The examples appear to be very similar to those that appear on the test.
You get what you pay for. This book has about 200 questions that are EXACTLY like the ones used on the CogAT (that's what several test administrators confirmed for me who have seen the test and the booklet). I disagree with the 1-star reviewer -- "something similar" from MENSA, etc. is not enough for nervous, perfectionist or highly gifted kids who like to be prepared. My kids benefitted tremendously from the confidence of knowing exactly what to expect on test day. Don't be "penny wise and pound foolish" about the importance of self-confidence.
A last thought if your child doesn't pass the CogAT with a high enough score to benefit from the school's special gifted services, you'd feel the book was a waste of money, as was taking the test. The reciprocal likewise holds true, which is worth remembering when you interpret reviews about this book.

This book helped my daughter to pass Gifted and Talented test. Highly recommend it.
Good content, but not worth $40, my son was done with this book within 1 hour, read other reviews, and look for other resources on the web, before buying the book.
